Anisha has been in bed all day. She loves her work but does not feel like working today. She feels low on energy and just wants to sleep.
What’s happening to Anisha?
Anisha is feeling fatigued. She is probably feeling emotionally exhausted too. She needs to find a way to balance her energy and rejuvenate herself.
Why do we feel fatigued?
Failing drained is the result of overworking our minds. It can be a result of stress, overthinking, or living the same schedule over and over again.
How is it different from burnout and tiredness?
Tiredness leads to fatigue. Fatigue leads to burnout.
While all three are a result of exhaustion, their magnitudes differ.
How can we manage fatigue?
Manage tiredness- Prevention is better than cure. Since prolonged tiredness leads to fatigue; it’s better to tackle tiredness first. Set frequent breaks in the middle of your day, to rejuvenate yourself. Here are some ways to do so.
Check your sleep schedule- Our body feels low on energy, when we are either sleeping a lot or not sleeping at all. Morning or night rituals like meditation or exercise can help manage our sleep schedule.
Cultivate a hobby- Hobbies are a great way to produce happy hormones in our bodies. Indoor hobbies like gardening, hula hooping, painting, or even boxing make us feel happy. This helps us get out of a rut and make some time for ourselves.
Analyze your schedule- Take a look at your weekly schedule. Are you living the same day over and over again? Are your weekends the only time you take a break? Living every day like the same can get mechanical and monotonous. Add at least 1 hour of me time to your day. This helps our body and brain relax from time to time.
Detach guilt- The need to be productive all the time is common these days. However, it’s important to understand that resting and pausing are also productive. Think of it like charging yourself in order to work better. Even your electronic devices take rest and charge themselves every day, as a human being you deserve rest too.
Evaluate your social circle- Fatigue can also be a result of emotional exhaustion. If you are playing the role of a caregiver in your social circle, your brain will feel drained out. It’s important to communicate and manage your emotional needs and boundaries.
Professional help- If feeling fatigued is interrupting your daily life, it can be a sign of mental illness. Reach out to a mental health professional in such cases. If we can see a doctor for a stomach ache, why not see a doctor for the most important part of our body: the brain?
Remember, our body and mind are working hard every single day. It’s important to give them a break too.
U write so well 😍
